Our Beliefs

God exists in three persons, but is only one being. The best way to explain this without committing heresy is to think of ourselves. We are made in the image of God so it stands to reason that we can use ourselves to explain what God is like. God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three are separate entities while remaining one God. We exist as one being but there is a mind, a body, and a spirit.

There is a common misconception that God is this angry taskmaster just waiting to smite us for any bad behavior. We believe that Jesus refers to God as the "Father" so that we can view God as a nurturing parental figure. God doesn't seek to punish us but rather seeks to lovingly help us grow into loving beings as God is.

We believe that all world religions have some basis of truth to them. Each religion is a human interpretation of their interactions with God. Each religion has very similar tenets of faith. Just as any religion has extremism, we understand that the extremism does not represent the entirety of a religion. We welcome and include all persons of all faiths. 

We believe that the purpose of the church is to show the world that love (agape love) is a verb. Love takes action. Love takes sacrifice. Love requires us to step outside of ourselves and put others first. 

We believe that when Jesus said to "go make disciples of all nations", Jesus didn't mean to do so with power and conquest. We believe Jesus meant to spread God's love with sacrificial actions to the rest of the world. Christianity is more about humility than it is about prosperity and power.

We believe the Church is more than a building. The Church is the people who gather together in the same faith of Christ. The purpose of Sunday services is a way for believers to be encouraged in their faith and acting out their love. Service is almost like a training session so that the believers have all of their tools sharpened and honed to best go out and love others.
